Keystone Steam Supplies can provide a variety of vacuum breakers that will prevent damage to steam system equipment. These breakers are made by leading manufacturers, and are available in a range of sizes, styles and materials.
Applications
When a steam system shuts down, any steam left inside condenses into water. This creates a vacuum because water takes up much less volume than steam. If the vacuum is not relieved in a timely manner, it can cause damage to equipment. For example, the vacuum can stop drainage systems from working, keeping condensate inside the system where it can freeze and burst pipes.
Vacuum breakers offer a simple and dependable means to relieve vacuum conditions automatically. This protects pressure vessels and piping from vacuum conditions, condensation and water hammer (a pressure surge caused when fluid is forced through the system). They are used for all types of applications, including steam boilers, steam main zoning, shell and tube heat exchangers, and more.
Selection
Vacuum breakers are available from Keystone Steam Supplies in a variety of materials, including brass, bronze and stainless steel. They have threaded connections available in a range of sizes, from ⅛ inch all the way up to four-inch NPT.
Some models are available with field-adjustable ranges to ensure safe limits for control of an induced vacuum. The adjustable range can be set from 1/4 to 20 inches Hg vacuum, and is available on breakers with ⅜- and ¾-inch NPT connections.
