Elevator bolt selection

We can supply large head elevator bolts in grade 2 steel or 18-8 stainless steel, and in a range of sizes. They are available in nominal sizes from 1/4-20 to 3/8-16, with lengths from 3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inches. The body diameters range from 0.182 inch to 0.515 inch, the head angles range from 9 degrees to 12 degrees, and the head heights range from 0.062 inch to 0.176 inch.

Elevator bolt design

Elevator bolts are similar to carriage bolts in that the shank has a square section just below the head. This design makes the bolt self-locking when used in a square hole in metal or a round hole in most wood. As a result, a nut can be easily threaded on the fastener working from one side with a single tool.  These bolts are often used in security applications since the head design prevents them from being unfastened from the insecure side.
