Fluid Power is the use of a fluid under pressure to generate and control power. Fluid Power uses either Hydraulic (a liquid, such as hydraulic oil) or Pneumatic (a gas, such as air) to transmit the power. A fluid power system has a pump driven by a prime mover. This converts the mechancial energy in to fluid energy. It then actuates a device such as a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder or motor, depending on the type of directional force required (linear or rotational).
